What if...Reflecting on my Goals for 2019

Happy New Year! I'm starting 2019 the way I think a lot of parents start the new year - sort of lost in the chaos that was the last two weeks. Parties, late nights, slow days of play, lots of visitors and absolutely a wonderful break from the routine of everyday life. But, today, school begins again (for at least one of my children) and I'm back to doing what I love here on TKR. But, I can't stop myself from taking a few minutes to reflect on where I want to go in this moment.

I recently came across this Maria Montessori quote and new immediately it would be my mantra for 2019. This is a struggle for me, a challenge.
"How much fuller and richer life would be if we saw the child in all his greatness, all his beauty, instead of focusing on all his little mistakes?" Maria Montessori
Not immediately seeing what is wrong and trying to fix it. But Maria is right, how much joy am I missing out doing that? How many times have I interrupted concentration, or disrupted my child's intrinsic motivation by interjecting my own feelings? That's hard to admit. But, I need to put it out there and hold myself accountable for this goal.

Reflecting on my goal for 2019 - a quote by Maria Montessori

I have other things I want to do in 2019 too. Sleep more, eat better. But, this is my true goal. This is the lasting goal that I need, that the world needs.

How are you seeing your child in 2019?
