We really keep our book budget tight. I grew up in a house filled with books, but we owned very few. But, I've found that the # of board books that really use 1) suitable vocabulary for a young toddler 2) high-interest yet simple and realistic stories 3) beautiful, realistic illustrations 4) represent diverse children and written and illustrated by diverse authors is far fewer than I would have guessed. We have renewed many of our favorites 5-6 times already! And, I feel a little sad knowing other parents and children won't be able to find those books by chance on the library shelves.

Thanks for sharing this list! I have a hard time resisting books too. And use very similar parameters to actually buying one to keep, libraries are such wonderful places!... and then thrift stores are amazing places to score wonderful titles!
