Day in the Life at 25 Months

I can't believe it has been a year since the last TAT Day in the Life post! So much has changed during that time. It feels like forever and yesterday all at the same time. Looking over that post, I'm struck by how hard our days were. Like many high needs children, Henry is much easier on a day-to-day basis now then he was a year ago. As he's gotten older, his tantrums have gotten much less frequent and his overall mood is much happier.

A typical day for us now, looks like:

7:00-8:00: Henry wakes up, plays on the iPad and drinks milk in bed. Henry is not a morning person, and needs a few minutes of downtime in the morning -- just like his Mom and Dad.

8:00-8:45: Breakfast. Henry is the sloooooowest eater, and breakfast is his favorite. Every morning its like an event!

9:00-11:45: Activity time. This changes a lot depending on the day. We have classes scheduled together three days a week which all fall during this time. Some days, like yesterday, we stay home and clean or get other errands done. If we are home, we may do a tot school activity at this time, or some other project. Some days, like today, we're out having fun -- Mom and Baby Yoga today!! Henry loves to be on the go, and we take a good variety of stuff to keep him happy and occupied. Plus, it helps develop his social skills and exposes him to a variety of learning opportunities.

11:45-12:30: Back home for lunch.

12:30-12:45: Play/clean up time. I've been trying to be better -- especially on days where we are home all morning -- about incorporating clean up time into our day. This way I'm not stuck doing everything at the end of the night when I'm totally exhausted.

1:00-2:30: Quiet/Rest/Nap Time. Like I mentioned in Hen's 2-year update, Henry only naps about 2-3 days a week now. But everyday he has quiet time in his crib. Usually during this time, he will run around and play with a few things in his crib. When he does fall asleep it usually closer to 1:30 and lasts until 3:30-4:00 -- but this really isn't the norm anymore.

While Henry is having his quiet time, I work. Sometimes, I just do stuff around the house. But, most of the time, I'm writing or researching for my job.

2:30-3:00: Clingy, crabby, cuddle time. Usually, if Hen doesn't nap, I get him about 2:30 and he is so tired that he just clings to me. So we will cuddle on the couch and play on the iPad, or he'll have a snack, or we'll just look out the window...just depends on the day. This time of day, Hen is usually pretty crabby and alternates between tantrums and running around crazy.

3:00-4:00: Playtime. Henry just runs around. Sometimes, he'll let me get stuff done around the house, other times I just play with him, or we do a project.

4:00-5:00: Tot school time! This is the main time when we sit and do tot school together. If Henry naps until 4:00 and there isn't time to do tot school now, then we save it until after dinner.

5:00-5:30: More crabby time. By now Henry is really hungry and super tired. Which means this could also be known as iPad time. Hen plays on the iPad, and I cook dinner.

5:30ish-6:30: Morgan comes home! Then dinner. Some days, I go and work as soon as Morgan gets home while he feeds Hen and puts him down. Other days, I don't go to work until after Hen is down.

Depending on whether Hen napped or not, he may get some play time after dinner. Like I said, if he napped for a long time, then we usually do tot school after dinner and get him to bed by 8:00. If he didn't nap, that boy is in bed by about 7:00.

If I'm not already at work, I start by 8:30. I generally work until 10:30, and am in bed by 11:30. It's usually a crazy long day, but I cannot express how much I love being home with Hen!

What is a typical day like for you? Does it look anything like it did a year ago? Or anything like my day?

I love this post! It's interesting to peek into everyone's day to day. Our days are a little different -- Ethan is SUCH a morning person, bolting out of bed to play, run around, beg to go out back and slide, etc. and I'm all crabby and whining about needing coffee. He's not a breakfast person either and it's pressure to get him to eat enough to take him through to lunch time. We do classes twice a week, My Gym and Kindermusik, which are both between 9:40-11:30 so that's our "out and about" time. On the days we don't have classes, we usually do Tot School at that time. He's more focused in the morning/earlier hours, whereas the afternoons he just wants to go to the park/outside and play. We usually squeeze in an art project first thing after nap or before bedtime.

Cute update! I love it (not) when toddlers wake up grumpy from naps. THE WORST few hours ever. Look at them the wrong way and they freak! We are the same in that if Henry isn't in school (which is only 3 1/2 days/week) then I try to get him outside in the mornings - it's a must to break up the day!

Love it! I'm jealous - our little one is ready to play first thing in the morning and we are sooo not morning people either!
