Summer Capsule Wardrobe Planner

Here in Minnesota we have had a pretty mild winter and early spring. After having record breaking snow and cold last year, this has been a welcome relief. It also makes me super motivated to get all our summer clothes in order and ready for warmer weather! Once again, I have will put together a capsule wardrobe for each of the kids.

A capsule wardrobe is a small, intentional wardrobe with coordinating pieces. It has everything you need for the season. We have used one for awhile now and it is perfect for our Montessori home. Since sharing my winter capsule wardrobe planner, many of you have asked for me to share a summer planner as well. So, here it is!

A few notes about this season! One, you might notice that there are a few more shirts than the winter capsule. I've just found that the kids go through a few more outfits in the summer than the winter. They are outside more, get wet more frequently, and are home more frequently for changes. It's not a huge change, but it is a change. Two, I haven't included dresses or shorts in the planner. If you have a child that wears one, just replace as necessary. I count dresses as "tops" and skirts as "shorts."

Frequently Asked Questions with Capsule Wardrobes

Laundry - This is my most asked question. During the week, I do one load of laundry a day. Being a family of 7, it is a full load. It takes me a lot less time to fold one load a day than save it all for once or twice a week. On the weekend, when Morgan is also home, we do a couple extra loads for things like sheets and towels.

Spring/Fall - In Minnesota we get 4 full seasons, in the spring and fall we can have a hot day followed by a day where it snows. So, I combine my summer and winter capsules for those few weeks. As we move into warmer spring days, I will put away all the heavier shirts and sweaters from our winter capsules and add the short sleeved shirts. So they will have a mix. As it gets even warmer, I'll replace half the pants with shorts. And then eventually they will have their whole summer capsule. This way we only create capsules twice a year but still make it through all the wild weather we see.

Favorite Place to Buy Clothes - My favorite spot right now is still Primary, followed closely by Hanna Andersson. Both sell clothes that have withstood a lot of wear and washing that are also still cute and coordinated. If you're looking for rain suits, I highly recommend OAKI. And rain boots, Crocs.

I hope this planner is helpful for you if you are considering a capsule wardrobe for your children!

Do you find this capsule to vary depending on age (i.e. for small babies/toddlers versus older school-aged) kiddos?
Nicole @ The Kavanaugh Report
Yes, this is for over 1-year, you can find baby capsule here, since they do tend to use more clothes in general. http://www.thekavanaughreport.com/2019/11/using-capsule-wardrobe-with-newborn.html
