Bubble Wrap Tray Activity for Toddlers

Sometimes the best activities are the simplest. Teddy isn't a kid that loves a lot of shelf or tray work. But every now and then, something will really call to him and meet his needs. When that happens, he can't get enough. And, this bubble wrap tray activity has completely enthralled Teddy this week.

The tray itself is super simple, it's a tray with a little bit of an edge with a piece of bubble wrap cut to size. The tray is thrifted and the bubble wrap was just left over from a package that was delivered (and totally supports Teddy's interest in recycling.)

I love this activity for a few reasons. These include:

  • It's a great scanning activity. He has to scan the whole sheet to fine the bubbles that aren't popped yet. Scanning is a great skill that will be needed to fluidly read in the coming years.
  • Fine motor strength. He has to use his fingers in just the right way to pop each individual bubble on its own.
  • Finding the right pressure. Too much pressure and his finger slips off the bubble, and too little and the bubble doesn't pop.
  • Concentration and perseverance. I love that there are so many opportunities to repeat in one sheet and it helps him learn to sit and do work for longer stretches.

So, if you're looking for some simple and easy toddler work, find some bubble wrap and let them loose!
