Springtime at Tot School

Despite the fact that we started this past week with several inches of snow, we took a break from letters and celebrated springtime at tot school this week. Thankfully, by the end of the week it was beautiful and made Hen realize that the weather isn't just snowy and cold all the time.

Our first tray this week was a color matching flower pot I made. {See how to make them here} First, it had a laminated sheet with each color printed, a corresponding felt flower, and a Popsicle stick with a corresponding colored button hot-glued on. Then there was a small flower pot filled with rainbow rice. Henry could then match the colored flowers in a variety of ways.

This was Henry's favorite for the week, but he got irrationally upset if the felt flowers were  placed on the Popsicle sticks...toddlers. He mostly just placed the sticks into the rice and matched the sticks and flowers to the colors on the sheet.

The second tray was focused on Earth Day. It was a globe printable {printable found here}, a bowl of pom-poms, and tongs. Henry really liked this but never really got that the blue poms went on the water and the green on the land. But, he did try to use the tongs a lot this week, which was great fine motor work.

The final tray was another Earth Day inspired too. It was a "recycling bin" filled with different metal, paper, plastic, and glass recyclables. {More on the Recycling Activity Here!} Then, the tray included little cards that Henry could use to sort all the recycling. This was another one of Henry's favorites this week. It was a great way to teach him about different materials and, by spreading the cards around the room, it became a fun gross motor activity too!

Other things we did this week included:

Making small bird feeders: This was super fun to make but ended up just being squirrel feeders.

Life-Cycle Puzzle: Henry loved this Melissa and Doug puzzle we checked out from our tot library

Flower magnets: Every time I take these out, Henry loves them

Dot Painting - we used tot paints to decorate for spring

Spring Dry Erase Sheet

This is absolutely fabulous - I love the felt flowers and buttons and know what I will be making this week for my little girl to do.

Thank you so much for linking to Tuesday Tots this week and to let you know that I will be featuring this on Rainy Day Mum this week.

Thanks Cerys! Just a tip, if you are going to make them. The round buttons did not work as nice as the shape (like the bumblebee) buttons, also cut the holes smaller than you think, cause they will stretch over time!
