TAT: Quirkiness

This week's Toddle Along Tuesday topic is funny or quirky habits. Henry has a lot of little quirky things he does. He likes to wear one shoe around the house. All the doors in the room he's in have to be shut. He will always pick the yellow object. But, I want to talk about his new little quirky thing he's doing -- with his lip.

Henry has always been known for his pouty bottom lip. Always. Ever since the epic-pouty-lip-of-awesomeness-picture it really has been his signature.

But recently, Hen has been doing something new with his bottom lip: sucking on it like a pacifier. Over and over for hours. The first week, the lip was blue and bruised because he had sucked on it so much! He does it all day. Suck, suck, suck the little lip. If he can also twirl my hair -- that's an added bonus.

I know this new quirky little habit is probably a product of teething. But, I tried so hard to get him to comfort suck on anything as a baby. Nothing worked. Then, all of a sudden as a toddler he finds something he likes? And it's his lip?

It's a little weird to me. But, I guess toddlers are just weird by nature. For now, I haven't fought it too much. Honestly, he is sleeping better since he started doing it and has been slightly calmer. I'm  hoping that once his horrible-awful-I-hate-you I-teeth finally come in, he will stop doing it. Until then, I guess we will have the epic-sucked-in-lip-of-awesomeness...?

Thankfully, all this lip sucking has not interfered with the lip pouting. Or else I might be really sad (oh, and here's a preview of Henry's 18 month photo shoot - pouty lip and all!).

Harrison did the exact same thing! He never would take any pacifiers or bottles but then at about 18 months or so, he started sucking his lip. He still does it some, and I can always tell because it will be all red. I thought the same thing, though -- NOW you're going to start sucking on things?

So what you're saying is that we have the same child, just a couple years apart?

You son looks really active and on the more. But that is best especially when you are getting them to learn.
I am following you now and is always looking for tips on how to encourage my little one to learn.

He's just so cute and I love the pouty lip! I used to suck on my lip as a kid and now i have a little birth mark there that is more pronounced from the sucking -- at least that is what my mom tells me!

Thanks for joining in on this weeks Toddle Along Tuesday!

Haha he looks so adorable in those pics! My daughter is obsessed with her dummy (pacifier) which is so frustrating but that's really all she sucks on. But she does have lots of fun biting the noses of her soft toys and basically trying to kill them (she's an aggressive one...) :-)
