Montessori Tot School Letter K

Henry is 25 Months old.

This week was another one of "those" weeks where Henry sort of really wasn't interested in tot school. I'm never sure if it was just his mood or the trays, but he would play for a couple minutes then say "all done." So, I don't have many pictures from this week's tot school time, since things were so quick most days.

Prior to this week, Henry could say and identify K and k.

On our first tray this week was a kitchen sheet I made. Then, I included a bunch of laminated cards of things that can be found in a kitchen -- fridge, oven, sink, dishes, etc. -- that Henry could place however he liked into the kitchen. Henry has been into pretending lately, so I thought this would be a good way to work on his vocabulary. He liked it, but honestly, I think he was a little confused about what to do. I think maybe it would have been better to do a matching game for him.

The second tray was a set of matching shape keys I made. The goal was for Henry to match the shapes. Lately, I've decided that Henry has needed a review of shapes. Henry seemed to understand but just not be interested. He did it a couple times but ignored it after.

The final tray was Henry's favorite for the week. It was two wooden bowls with matching sets of keys inside. One bonus of our new house is having lots of keys that we don't use sitting around. So the goal was for Henry to match the pairs. He really enjoyed this. Even if he didn't match the keys, he still enjoyed playing with the real keys.

There was also a letter K sensory bin. Henry enjoyed this -- his favorite was the giant foam K and the kitten book.

Other things we did this week:

A little food fun, a K made of kiwi for breakfast.

Hide and seek K words: This was by far Henry's favorite activity of the week and we did this for close to TWO hours one day. I made a sensory bin with old quinoa, barley, and oatmeal (perfect way to clear the pantry) and hid the "k words" in the mix. Henry then found them and matched them to a sheet. Seriously, so easy and he had a blast.
