The Year in Review

So about this time of year all the news organizations start running their "Year in Review" pieces. I tend to enjoy them for the most part. It's a nice way to look back, see where we started and the events that were important throughout the year. I always like how some things become so unimportant by the end of the year, but at the time were the big news stories of the day. Here's a link to Yahoo!'s: http://yearinreview.yahoo.com/.

So, I've been doing a lot of pondering lately about this year, so much has happened. It was hard to remember everything. I started out the year by having my spirits crushed by the Vikings. That's all I'm going to say about that. That aside, it was actually an exciting start to the year because it was our last semester of school, ever. At the time, it seemed like such a huge deal because we've always been going to school. Well, for the last 20+ years or so. That semester seems like it was so long ago. It turned out to be a great semester overall. Nicole and I had a few classes together, and we actually took our last law school final together (Secured Transactions). So after coming out of the depths of finals in May, Nicole and I had little time to recover. We graduated in May from law school, which was exciting and somewhat of a downer. It was a downer because we had to start the Bar Review class the very next day. Studying for the Bar is not the worst thing ever, but it certainly was draining. Our May, June and July was pretty much booked with non-stop studying. In July, I literally studied from 7am - 10pm every day. On top of that, we found out that Nicole was pregnant! We found out a couple of weeks before the bar exam. I think it was for the best, because it actually calmed my nerves some. I needed something else to focus on besides the Bar, and to realize that there were more important things in life than a 2-day exam. I have some opinions about the bar exam which I won't share here. Maybe on my legal blog that I hope to start soon. Finishing that exam was the greatest feeling, and again, a downer because we had to wait months to know our score. Speaking of that, I would say that day of finding out if we passed or not was the worst and then the best day. I've never been so nervous in my life. They just release your exam number and you have to download the "successful candidates" list and find your number. My heart was racing and I was literally shaking. I'm pretty sure my vision was blurry too because I was having a hard time reading the numbers. Alas, it was there. I would have preferred someone just jumping out from behind a bush and yelling "you passed!" or "you failed!" to that torture. Once we found out we passed, we found ourselves at the Saint Paul RiverCentre yet again for the swearing in ceremony (graduation and the bar exam were held there). We just wanted to get that over with because we had an ultrasound that afternoon and we were going to find out the sex of the baby. That was a great day because both our parents came up and we had lunch, announced the baby's sex and name, and also had dinner. I know I will always remember that moment when we found out we were going to have Henry Morgan. Then, to top off the year, I accepted an associate attorney position at Wilkerson & Hegna where I clerked at for almost two years. WHEW!

That's a lot of major life events and changes to cram into one year. But hopefully 2011 will be just as fun!
